Lake County Magazine Woman of Distinction award winner, Holly Kim is known for her civic heart, unparalleled work ethic, and innovative ideas.

Holly Kim comes to the table with a positive attitude of altruism. She is known in her circles as industrious and she believes in picking up the shovel and getting to work. She has been an outspoken advocate in the community for economic sustainability through supporting the local economy and small business owners.

When her parents first came from South Korea, her father worked an overnight shift at a gas station. As a role-model of working hard and giving back to the community, her father invested long hours opening a business while serving as president of the Chamber of Commerce, and Jaycees president. Currently, both parents live in Barrington, own their own businesses and a shipping company. Holly Kim knows the American Dream is alive and well in Lake County to all those who strive for it.

She worked her way through college earning a degree from Northeastern Illinois University in Spanish and Latin American Studies while volunteering for citizenship workshops through Congressman Gutierrez. Through her years of balancing work, school, and civic volunteerism, by the time she graduated, she had no student loans and plenty of work experience to immediately land a management position. Outside of college, Holly has worked only management and director level positions meaning her specialties are: staff management and reducing redundancy in workflow process.

Practicing "servant leadership", Holly has spent most of her life volunteering for the Illinois Jaycees, holds Chair of Board for Village Homesteading Mundelein, Vice president for an Hanul Family Alliance elder care organization, volunteers in the PTO, local fishing derbies (Walk on Water and the Loch Lomond fishing derby), the local 4-H, and serves on the Membership Board of her church.

"My family means the world to me. My daughters Kelly and Wendy attend Carl Sandburg middle school and are on the competitive robotics team. My littlest one Malachi goes to Mechanics Grove elementary and says he wants to be an engineer when he grows up. My supportive rock, Ben, is a seventh grade Math teacher at Zion Central middle school. We are a family that encourages learning through curiosity and life experiences. We also love food and travelling."
